This hand knit picot hemmed tank is a stylish way to top a skirt or a pair of jeans at any time of day. It would look great with a jacket as well, making it appropriate knitwear for any season. The knit picot edging and eyelet flourishes add visual interest to what could otherwise be a boring basic sleeveless shirt.
Bottom, armhole, and neckline edges are all hemmed with the picot turned edge. Shoulders are cut in deeper than expected in order to lend a more slenderizing appearance. These faced hems all around finish off the edges very quickly.
A row of eyelets about an inch above the bottom edge balances the eyelet motif at the neck. Three simple bobbles form the bottom "V" of the motif which is otherwise done exclusively in easy eyelets.
The main body of the picot hemmed tank is knitted in the round up to the armholes.
I used 5/2 perle cotton (2100 yds per lb / 24-26 wraps per inch) because I live in a hot, humid climate. It would look outstanding in any yarn which produces a gauge of 8 sts x 11 rows per inch on Size 2 US needles. This produces a stable gauge in the cotton which does not distort or stretch out of shape.
