Sizes: 36" (38" - 42" - 44" - 48" - 52" - 56" - 60") finished garment chest measurement
This hand knit t-shirt top has a classic fit with a bit of tailored shaping. Bodice is knitted in the round up to the armholes. Sleeves are knitted flat, in order to allow adjustments to width and shaping from bottom edge up to the armhole. Set-in sleeves. Sleeve Cap is shaped so that the sleeves hang stylishly horizontal along the bottom edg. Garter Stitch eyelet edgings. Jewel neckline with single button closure at back neck (see photo at right, below).
The hand knitted pattern stitch includes a little knot design which somewhat resembles a flower when looked at closely. It is a very easy little knit motif which just breaks up the wide expanses of Stockinette Stitch on the tee while producing a classy simplicity at the same time.
I used my favorite yarn for knitting clothing and socks here in the heat and humidity of Texas: 5/2 perle cotton (but any yarn producing gauge would work). It has a lightweight drape like interlock knit jersey, but it is much more breathable. Besides the cool comfort, it can be dyed easily with Procion MX fiber-reactive dyes, which makes buying it by the cone very attractive. The 5/2 perle (or Size 5 perle) is a fine fingering-weight cotton yarn, 2100 yds per lb (or about 24 wraps/inch), and can be found readily in yarn and weaving shops online.
Required Yardage: 1069 [1144, 1354, 1503, 1700, 1900, 2145, 2350] yds
Knit gauge in Stockinette Stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row) is 8 stitches and 11 rows per inch on size 2 US needles. This is a stable gauge, and if cotton is used, it will not stretch out of shape (or grow, as can happen with too loose a gauge).
