Sizes: 36" (38" - 40 1/2" - 43 1/2" - 48" - 53" - 56 1/2" - 61") finished garment chest measurement
This openwork knit jacket with three-quarter-length sleeves is a versatile addition to the year-round wardrobe. It quickly dresses up a basic jeans and t-shirt outfit while fitting in perfectly with elegant evening plans, worn over a coordinated or matching dress. It's all in the color and fiber choices.
Front and neck edges are finished in a rolled shawl collar and meet at center front. Back neck shaping insures that shoulder seams do not slip to the backside or hike up the front bottom edge. Fronts and back are knit in one piece up to the armholes. Unlike for most lacework, I chose not to block this garment with the usual dampening, stretching, and pinning.
I used 3/2 perle cotton, but any fingering or sock weight yarn which produces gauge will work for this knit lace cardigan, including any combination of finer yarns which together constitute a somewhat fingering or sock weight. Larger than expected needles are used, but gauge is stable due to the pattern stitch. Knit gauge in Openwork Pattern Stitch is 21 stitches x 32 rows = 4 inches on Size 7 US needles.
Required Yardage: 950 [1000, 1175, 1275, 1460, 1600, 1825, 1970] yds.
Below is a Bolero variation.
