Such an elegant stranded jacket. The overall original damask design repeat elevates it from just another cardigan to a tailored couture knit jacket for special occasions. Perfect for semi-formal eveningwear to a casual outings in jeans.
The tailored fit of this stranded hand knit sweater jacket makes it a true classic. Measurements and very detailed directions are included throughout the instructions for each of the 8 sizes all along the process. Exact starting points within the stranded colorwork repeats are included for each portion of the knit damask jacket. Stitch and row counts are included as you check your progress. Fronts and back are knit in one piece up to the armholes.
The shawl collar on this lovely jacquard jacket is faced with a continuation of the fair isle design. It looks as good folded over as it does up hugging the neck on cooler evenings. Crisp turn rows are featured along the bottom hemmed edges of the stranded hand knit jacket and the cuffs of the sleeves.
Front closure is provided by a 1 1/8" snap.
With this pattern, not only do you receive detailed instructions for a fine stranded knit jacket, but you also receive my original charted fair isle design repeat which could be incorporated into other personal projects. Not a fan of pointed star type narrow bands of stranded colorwork, I wanted to create an overall wispy, curvy balanced mesh of shapes in which no individual elements demanded attention. See this same motif in color choices which produce a rather frosted look at Stranded Knit Jacket (at https://www.conniehester.com/stranded-knit-jacket-pattern.htm).
I used a sock weight / fingering weight yarn for this stranded hand knit damask jacket. Living in heat and humidity, I prefer to knit with cotton, but any fiber would be appropriate. The 3/2 perle cotton (Size 3 perle; 1260 yds per lb; 18 wraps per inch) which I used can also be dyed easily in fiber-reactive Procion MX dye, which I do frequently.
Knit gauge in Stockinette Stitch with only one strand of yarn is 7 stitches and 10 rows per inch on Size 3 US needles. The stranding on the inside of knitwear when using the 2 colors produces a wonderful light jacket-weight which I absolutely love. It has such a comforting feel to it.
