FUN SOCKS for adults! Use this sock pattern to choose your own color combinations for these hand knit socks. Checkerboard, turned down cuff and contrasting heel. The checkerboard in the cuff is knitted in intarsia style, which means there are no carried over yarns on the underside. If you prefer stranding, it could be knit in this manner, though, as well. Reinforced heel. Information included for adapting socks to personal fit.
Knit pattern is stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row - when knit in the round, every right-side row is a knit row). Knit pattern gauge is 9 stitches and 14 rows per inch on size 1 US needles. Gauge is fine enough that no purl stitches are felt underfoot in the sole. Socks are knit from the cuff-down.
Sock pattern packet also includes instructions for solid colored socks. Pattern for solid colored socks could be used for knitting all-over stripes, too. For hand dyers, solid hand knit socks could be dyed as desired, since about 400 yards of Size 5 perle cotton yarn (also called 5/2 perle; 24-26 wpi) are used (although any yarn matching the knit gauge would be appropriate). Cotton socks feel so good against the skin.
