Styling for this pullover hand knit hemmed vest includes longer Armholes and narrower Shoulders than normal, for a more slenderizing appearance. The Armhole and Neckline finish is a turned and hemmed edge which looks far more polished than the usual ribbing. The bottom edge is hemmed for a smooth finish as well.

Knit Hemmed Vest 2 by Connie Hester Intarsia knitting means that loose strands of yarn are not laying across the backside of the knitwear, creating extra bulk. With intarsia, lengths of yarn are cut in specific lengths allowing them to be used in isolated areas only, producing a single layer of knitting.

Even knitted in one solid color, this little vest would lend a classy look to any ensemble, particularly with these edge finishes. They kick it up a notch in sophistication. Yardages are included for solid colored knit vests in addition to the knit vest with intarsia block trim.

Another nice alternative might be to substitute a decorative pattern stitch or 2 1/2" of stripes along the bottom edge. This basic classic design encourages all sorts of creative license.

I have included the second view of this little tailored vest in order to illustrate more clearly the lower cut of the armhole.

Since I live in a hot and humid climate, I love knitting with perle cotton. It is cool against the skin, fairly thin without being flimsy, and easy to dye with fiber-reactive dyes, which I do often. I used Size 3 (also called 3/2) perle cotton (1260 yds per lb, or 18 wraps per inch) so that I can wear it all year 'round. Any sock or fingering-weight yarn which produces gauge will work, though, including any combination of finer yarns which together constitute a somewhat fingering-weight.

Knitting gauge in Stockinette Stitch is 7 stitches by 10 rows per inch on Size 3 US needles. This will produce a stable yet nicely draping gauge which will not sag, stretch, or otherwise distort. Measurements are included throughout the instructions to allow adjustments to be made for the perfect personal fit, as desired.
